    And thank you.
Yeah, I was THRILLED with the sets. Philly got Warrior, On Your Shore and Habit - and I'd have loved to hear those .. but to get Cut the Cord, Wild Horses, Four Walls, Science and Love, etc. etc. etc. for my (probably) first and last two Char Mar shows was fantastic..

Rapture, Without You, Count the Stars, The Long Road, Carry On, and Maybe I'm Not Her are all from her new album. I "liked" them when I first heard them, but I'm the type that really needs to live with the song a bit before hearing it live to really appreciate it (case in point, I really was bored with Riot Poof when Tori played it in Minneapolis before the album came out ..lol). Since getting her album at the concert and listening through, I've really started to enjoy them more. Also there's a song on here I instantly loved (Dressing Up In Gray) and I really hope she plays it in LA next month ... for that song to never get a live recording would be a sin ...

    Rapture tracklist:
    1. Count the Stars (based upon Piano Trees' "Count from 1-10" I believe!)
    2. Uncovered
    3. Rapture
    4. The Long Road
    5. Dressing Up In Gray
    6. When Can I See You Again
    7. Without You
    8. Maybe I'm Not Her
    9. Carry On
    10. My Tears Flood the Streets
    11. *hidden track

Is the new album more of the same like the last one? I found that one meandering quite a bit. Or is it more like Stromata/Dancing?

I know.. the gods paid me back at my next Tori concert in 2001 when I turned up to pick up the tix and it turned out the 'pit' tickets that I bought over the phone were actually balcony tickets ...

Blake: Her last album (Water Breaks Stone) was probably one of my least favourites, but it still had some gems.. Battle Cry, Spine, Science and Love..

Rapture is probably the calmest album of her career, but then it seems very much to be a 'goodbye' album. As she said a few times during the concerts, the songs are not happy, but 'sad isnt bad' ... Plus, the lyrics, chord progressions, and bridges are some of her best work IMO.

Count of Stars starts off w/ just piano and a vocal, and by the end its brimming with organs, backing vocals, and drums.

You probably know the title track - its got some lovely production and a nice beat.

Dressing Up In Gray is like "Mission Control"'s funky cousin. Very Stromata.

    Am gonna miss her terribly......

Yay, I'm so excited to hear it. When I first heard the song Rapture I liked it okay, then the ending came with all the instruments and backing vocals all layered, and I was in love.

Been playing Dressing Up In Gray 20+ times over on a loop .. love the chord progression into the chorus .. can't figure out some of the lyrics for the life of me though.. Anyone have any ideas on what 'dressing up in gray' might mean ?..

    Dressing Up In Gray
I flied in ways that you never notice
    Come to you in waves
I have got my sense of direction
    [Finalist today]

So ask me what's been wrong in my head, I
    Got nothing to say.
Been wanting more than [mundane, the edges]
    Wanting things to change

    Chorus:
Well it's never been more dangerous
to talk to me this way.
[Leave my hearts and my dramatic]
as I try to find the strength to walk away
    But I can't. It's the same
    Every day

I bet you never saw this one coming
    [Leave for everyone]
Accept myself that you hardly noticed
    Important things get done

Your ghost still visits me while I'm driving
    Your body hangs with hers
I've heard some flowers grow in the darkness
    See, but not get burned

And it's never been more dangerous
to talk to me this way
[Leave my heart so my dramatic]
and I try to find the strength to walk away
    But I can't. It's the same
    Every day

    [A bomb. A bomb. A bomb. A bomb.]

    Come with me, sweet boy
We can both dress up in gray
While the ???? and the crazy [tasks]
[Time to light and kill the day]

    It's a lightning storm
[But your place] to play it down
Well will you run when the night is done
Run from me, and from this town

    Well there's blood, and tears
    There's fire
    I think we've paid enough
Will you make the choice to love me?

Can't believe what I am seein'
So tell me that you'll stay
    [?] my love is automatic
and I try to find the strength
to walk away. But I can't
    It's the same

    Every day

[A bomb. A bomb.] Every day. [A bomb. A bomb.]

    Come with me, sweet boy
We can both dress up in gray
    Come with me, sweet boy
We can both dress up in gray
    Come with me, sweet boy
We can both dress up in gray
    Come with me, sweet boy
We can both dress up in gray
We can both dress up in gray
We can both dress up in gray
We can both dress up in gray.

    Thoughts on the new album?

I found the new tracks subdued. Judging from a single listen I kept thinking to myself "something's wrong. is she ok?" Her lyrics and approach have a pained tone and not the kind heard on Dancing On Needles. The title track is boss, a year-end favorite for sure. "The Long Road" sounds so Tori - no complaints here! Most of the songs build a little and fall gracefully toward the end, especially "Carry On" and "Maybe I'm Not Her."

I do wonder how close these songs are to being autobiographical. Outside her music, from what I understand, her personal life is great. But during her last 3 concerts she did make references to the new album being a 'doozy' and that she wrote it mostly while she thought her life was falling apart. I would actually love to interview her ... especially to understand how she sees the world and (given that we all know she is religious) try to figure out why there are 10x more science-related references in her work than religious ones. . . even some insight into how she translates cover songs .. the arrangement of Wild Horses, Blue Monday, and Bizarre Love Triangle in particular.

The new album is clearly home-made, there's a demoish undertone throughout the album. With most of the songs being solo piano songs I wonder if she just wanted to rush it out in time for the tour. Count The Stars is absolutely gorgeous, one of her best ever. Unfortunately the album as a whole feels a bit unfinished/ uninspired.
