Thread: Favourite + least favourite per album

    Warning: very unpopular opinions ahead.

    The Kick Inside
+ The Man with the Child in His Eyes: A 70's singer/songwriter classic. This could also be "Wuthering Heights" but I only listen to the re-recording.
    - Feel It: Shrieky and insufferable - a prime candidate for the least sexy record ever.

    Lionheart
+ Don't Push Your Foot on the Heartbrake: Kate stretching her music in a different direction, this is a full-on rocker and a great one, at that.
    - Coffee Homeground: I get what she was going for but this is kind of unpleasant for me.

    Never for Ever
+ Breathing: This truly opened the door for the masterful compositions of her future albums.
    - Babooshka: Unbearable - this was one of the first songs I heard from KB and it's so shrill and annoying that it almost put me off her work for good.

    The Dreaming
+ Leave It Open: So dark and theatrical - this one stays with you long after the first spin.
    - Sat In Your Lap: It still sounds completely pointless to me - pretentious and aimless.

    Hounds of Love
+ Hello Earth: Kate's genius distilled in 6 perfect minutes.
    - Mother Stands for Boredom Comfort

    The Sensual World
+ Love & Anger: The perfect pop single.
    - Between a Man and a Woman: A blatant filler track.

    The Red Shoes
+ Moments of Pleasure: I love the original as well as the DC version, but DC has its own standouts.
    - Constellation of the Heart: Sounds like a tacky mess unfortunately.

    Aerial
+ A Coral Room: Deeply moving, beautifully crafted.
    - King of the Mountain: I still can't believe this was her idea of a comeback.

    Director's Cut
+ The Red Shoes: My favorite song by the great Ms. Bush.
    - Deeper Understanding: A really misguided reworking.

    50 Words for Snow
+ Snowflake: Just devastatingly gorgeous. This could just as easily be "Lake Tahoe" or "Among Angels".
    - 50 Words for Snow: Really doesn't work as a standalone song - it's a fun concept that never really goes anywhere.

    Update!
(I've just read my choices a few years ago, and this has changed a lot)

    The Kick Inside
    + Wuthering Heights
    - Room for the Life

    Lionheart
    + Wow
    - Oh England My Lionheart

    Never For Ever
    + Violin
    - Delius (Song of Summer)

    The Dreaming
    + Night Of The Swallow
    - The Dreaming

(The Dreaming and Never For Ever are the only two albums where my choices didn't change)

    Hounds Of Love
    + Hounds of Love!
    - Hello Earth

    The Sensual World
    + The Sensual World
    - Between a Man and a Woman

    The Red Shoes
    + Top of the city
    - Eat the Music

    Aerial
    + Nocturn
    - An Architect's Dream (just because it's not fair to choose Prelude or The Painter's Link)

    Director's Cut
    + Lily
    - Rubberband Girl

    50 Words For Snow
    + Wild Man
    - Shut the fuck up, Elton
When he woke up, the dinosaur was still there.

    Hmmm...

    The Kick Inside
+ James and the Cold Gun: My actual favourite is the new vocal version of "Wuthering Heights" but that's not really a proper Kick Inside track, so I went with this one, which is a very close second and an all-around badass song.
    - Feel It: This is fucking awful. I love Kate Bush and she's totally crush-worthy, but on this track she sounds like Jenna Maroney talking about her sexxxxxuality.

    Lionheart
+ Hammer Horror: This was an early preview of where her music and voice could go, it's just fantastic.
    - In the Warm Room: Eh. I don't hate it, but it's the song I play the least on Lionheart.

    Never for Ever
+ Breathing: To envision something this ambitious at such a young age is impressive enough as it is, but the fact that she also nailed it this hard just boggles the mind.
    - Night Scented Stock: Should have been the intro to "Army Dreamers" or the outro to "The Infant Kiss", doesn't need its own track.

    The Dreaming
+ Houdini: I love so many cuts on The Dreaming, but this one just encapsulates everything the album is about so perfectly.
    - There Goes a Tenner: Kind of a throwaway for me. The storyline never really goes anywhere interesting, the Cockney accent is dreadful, and sonically it's probably the least adventurous part of the album.

    Hounds of Love
+ Hello Earth: KB at the apex of her genius. What else is there to say?
    - Mother Stands for Comfort: I'm bored just writing about this one.

    The Sensual World
+ Love & Anger: My most-played Kate song ever, and with good reason.
    - Between a Man and a Woman: Maybe it should have just stayed between them.

    The Red Shoes
+ Top of the City: She perfected parts of it on Director's Cut, but the original's urgency can't be denied.
    - Why Should I Love You: You shouldn't.

    Aerial
+ A Coral Room: Kate Bush has rarely been this open and this may be the most intimate and personal song of her career so far. Beautiful and deeply moving.
    - An Architect's Dream: I like it, but it's a little dull compared to everything else.

    Director's Cut
+ The Red Shoes: The dark fairytale ambience she created here is just irresistible.
    - And So Is Love: New version, old version, they've all put me to sleep.

    50 Words for Snow
+ Lake Tahoe: The perfect ghost story.
    - 50 Words for Snow: A cute gimmick stretched out for entirely too long.

    Before the Dawn
+ Top of the City (This turned out to be the song that stayed with me throughout my trip to London to see Kate live in concert. I had never noticed what a great song it was before. After I heard it live, it lingered with me throughout my stay, especially when I visited Highgate Cemetery, when the angel imagery struck me as the principal theme of my visit.)
