It's fucking awesome that she has 4 contenders for "masterpiece", a term which kind of loses relevance when looking at a career such as hers. So pleased that my love for LES has only grown and grown.

    Revised with England:

    1. To Bring You My Love
    2. White Chalk
    3. Is This Desire?
    4. Let England Shake
    5. Uh Huh Her
    6. Rid of Me
    7. Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
    8. Dry

1 To Bring You My Love
2 Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea
    3 Is This Desire?
    4/5/6 Dry / Rid of Me / 4-Track Demos
    7 Uh Huh Her
    8 A Woman A Man Walked By
    9 Let England Shake
    10 White Chalk
11 Dance Hall at Louse Point

It's hard because they are all great albums. Mid-career was the best, followed by PJ Harvey the band, followed by most recent material. And then Dance Hall at Louse Point, which is not bad at all, but less distinctive as a PJH album.

That's a really interesting ranking - nice to see UHH high up. I always struggle to rank anyone's albums but I think Let England Shake is right up there for me, and lately I've been getting really into Dry again.

^I know. It's almost in reverse chronological order.

Since I'm fairly new to her music, the ranking is obviously based on initial impressions. But I really don't connect as well with her much earlier work as I do the more current. #badpjfan

Rid of Me was the last PJ Harvey album that clicked for me. I don't often drag it out, but when I'm into it it's the best thing since sliced bread.

    Stories From...
    Rid Of Me
    Is This Desire?
    To Bring You My Love
    Let England Shake
    White Chalk
    Uh Huh Her
    Dry

It's really hard to rank the albums and it is subject to change but...

    1. to bring you my love
    2. is this desire?
    3. rid of me
    4. let england shake
    5. white chalk
    6. dry
    7. uh huh her
    8. a woman a man walked by
    9. stories
    10. dance hall

I do feel that white chalk should be higher as I consider it one of her best, but I have to be in the mood for it, so it's not as high as it could be.

White Chalk is an odd one - I rarely feel like listening to it, but not unlike Rid of Me, when I listen to it I'm just floored. I think it might be her best produced album.

I love this list because of its uniqueness. Rarely do you find someone ranking the most extreme variances of her work so closely together, especially at the top. Specifically, White Chalk/England followed so closely by ROM/Dry. I think that's pretty neat.

    =D

I love the first four albums on my list, and still play them very frequently. Same with the last half of UHH, which is perhaps her greatest stretch of songs, tied with the entirety of WC and LES. I've grown out of TBYML and Stories, and listen only to select songs from them (actually, only three--Monsta, The Dancer, and Big Exit). And ItD? has always been my least favorite, and except for the title track and Joy, I never listen to it.
