    Libraries

If/When I have my own house, I will have a library / room of books.

I noticed that about half of the home/architecture/interior design porn I like on tumblr/blogs are shots of book storage of all kinds.

Here are some libraries of the rich and famous. e.g. Karl Largerfeld:

So, let's post our own book-storage arrangements, or favourite library shots be they public or private and show some

Heather posted a great link the other day about vanity libraries/books as furniture.

Also lol. The last thing I want to look at just now is private libraries of the super-rich.

not just the super rich (as some of the shots in that article are pathetic - just basically small bookcases) but also stuff like this:

guessing some of the "books" are actually shelves on an L bracket painted to look like a book. or something.

I, too, demand a book room when and if I ever get a house of my own! Or at the least, converting one of the kids' rooms into one after they GTFO MY HOUSE! We went to a new neighborhood to trick or treat this past halloween and stumbled upon someone who had a library room in their little house [the light was on, curtains open, and it was very visable. we weren't being creepers, honest!].

Holy mother fuck that first picture.

When I am wealthy and live in a big house, as I surely will one day, I am going to have a big fucking library. Until then I've decided I need to not buy so many fucking books anymore and instead take books out of real libraries more often and keep a small collection at home. However in my case a small collection realistically means "two full sized Billy bookshelves, and maybe a half-sized one too for extra stuff". :/ :/ :/

Ah I love libraries and I wish there were many more of them...
In my opinion, one of the most beautiful, modern libraries was designed by tadao ando - it just screams what a fantasy library is in my mind...

And speaking of beautiful libraries and book-ish topics in general, has anyone ever looked through this book by Candida Hfer? It's excellent... real book porn.

All those photos are amazing though.. I've never been in the trinity library, actually, though it's kinda famous.

A bit on the dark side, but imagine having a bedroom this bookfilled.

Notwithstanding the awesome loner bibliophile's quaint nook design, I can't imagine how tiresome the dusting would be.

My mentor at NYU had the biggest library I've ever seen, in photos or in person. Her apartment was over 2,000 sq ft, the full floor of a building in the East Village/Bowery. Half of it was her partner's art studio, and the other half was the library-slash-living space. Her world cookbook library was about as large as Lagerfeld's wall of books (and most of her books were academic). It was like they were living in the university library stacks, every furniture piece had a shelf of books behind/near it! And each shelf had a note about when it was dusted last, LOL. I wish I had photos to share.
I'm a geek to the core and I love books, but I sure hope I don't end up with that many in 20-30 years. They are already a pain to move as it is.

don't laugh, this great shot in beauty and the beast formed the basis of all my dream libraries in childhood:

it was the most romantic and thrilling scene in the movie (well, for me at least), and it was all because of BOOKS!

as for my real home, I'm going to have to be a bit more realistic, but something like this would be nice:

that or a wood-paneled room with a lot of overstuffed chairs and a fireplace and tea with sardines and toast. because I am secretly C.S. Lewis, or at least Mr. Tumnus.
