A friend of mine asked for a Joanna mix cause I was always talking about her. I decided to go in the order the albums were released so he could hear the progression of her voice. He loved it! This was the tracklist . . .

    1 - Sadie
    2 - Swansea
3 - Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie
    4 - Cosmia
5 - Ca' the Yowes to the Knowes (I added this just because I love it)
    6 - Colleen
    7 - '81
8 - Good Intentions Paving Company
    9 - Baby Birch
    10 - Jackrabbits
    11 - Go Long
    12 - Does Not Suffice

^ Sadie is one of my very favorite songs, but it's also one of Joanna's most grating vocals if you're not used to her. I can only imagine his face when she hit that first note.

Way back in 2004, I thought you guys were nuts for liking Joanna Newsom. But I have since warmed up to a Chilean artist who has a similar voice. I am downloading a few tracks as I type. I lean toward the MEM album, but decided to just pull a few tracks from here and there. Based on the iTunes previews, I have bought...

    On a Good Day
    Bridges and Balloons
Sprout and the Bean (almost bought this song some 6 years ago)

The artist that warmed me to "affected" voices.

Hooray! Glad you are discovering Joanna!

It's interesting - I find that a lot more women with unusual voices are getting exposure and acceptance. It's lovely to see.

I really enjoy the three tracks that I bought. I have what I call an entertainment agenda, so I have had to split my time between books, TV, and music. During the semester, I have a hard time doing anything that isn't answering emails, grading papers or lesson planning. Joanna Newsom is part of that entertainment plan, as is clearing my DVR, and finishing a book I stupidly started in February.
