    Completely agree.

Please, please, please hire musicians for the next album, Tori, and a producer.
Yeah, I still just really can't get behind NI because of stuff like this. It's absolutely the best thing she's done in a while but it just never really gets there. Bang could be so good but instead, bleh.

I agree NI's instrumentation sucked, but at least it didn't have UG's kazoo.

As long as it’s not as stagnant as Matt & Jon sound on pretty much anything post-SHT, I’d welcome musicians again. I like the recent albums as-is though.

I think the kazoo was perfectly placed. It made sense where it was - nothing wrong with that. And while I find it strange that the same 'team' could come up with a record as fresh as Choirgirl or Venus, the production on NI doesn't actually ruin any songs for me because the songs themselves are strong enough to carry through.

NI sounded INFINITELY better than much of TBK, ADP, AATS and Midwinter Graces. Those albums had the band and that got stale and uninspired. With UG, I found the solo piano tracks to be the most inspired and beautiful she has sounded since Scarlet. But NI took that to another level.

I think the production on NI is just very inconsistent. It sucks on the "band" tracks because the drums just are so unconvincing to me. Broken Arrow is kind of awful for this reason. But then Reindeer King is produced incredibly. So it's more uneven than anything.

And for all it's flaws, I think AATS was actually produced really well. It's quite lush and full to my ears. And hearing a song like Fast Horse (okay maybe not the vocals, but the instrumentation) sounds really fully and alive, and I wish that UG and NI band songs had the same quality.

I'm with you on that. The songwriting is very much subpar throughout, but Abnormally Attracted to Sin is among her better albums production-wise (and exclusively in that respect).

I wish AATS weren’t so loud. There’s such a huge difference in production between the solo piano moments on that record vs. UG/NI; everything else just sounds like hard plastic, which has been a turnoff since day 1 for me. I agree it does better justice to the sounds than say, TBK or ADP but I think nearly everything post-SW until maybe UG was a production failure.

Still disappointed that nobody cared enough (to be fair, can't blame 'em) to turn Police Me and Give into goth club bangers.

I totally forgot about that performance. Funny it took Tori 14 yeas to give this song a proper version that it deserved.
