Lovely! Am watching/listening now as I type

I will post one - a Joanna YouTube thread is incomplete without this completely wonderful "Soft as Chalk" from Jimmy Fallon, March 2010

Her harp playing on that Sawdust and Diamonds is hypnotic!

Thanks to whoever gave me the green dot directing me to this forum. Posting the same question here: anyone has any idea how her funny facial expressions actually help her produce better vocals, which I think I read somewhere? Thanks!

Bwaahhhhh bawling at my desk. That song kills me, and it was a beautiful performance. So much sadness and anger at the end there.

It seems like there's not too many video interviews with Joanna? I've looked on YouTube and I only see two. An old one where she acts a bit pixieish and the one Kari posted awhile back with that hot piece drummer and bassist? But anyway, does Joanna Newsom have a reputation for being press shy/reclusive?

I think it's actually more to do with directing the high notes away from being sung directly into the mic. She doesn't have the oppotunity to move her head too much, as she needs to watch her harp strings, so from what I can work out, it's helping her mic technique more so than anything else.

Although, changing the aperture of her mouth would help to change the quality of the sound for particular vowel sounds and what not. So, it seems like it's a combination of both. She's really working to enunciate the sounds.

(edited because I changed my mind)

Thanks Ebby! I don't think I've ever come across any other singer who has facial acrobatics while singing, hence the curiosity.

Okay, so this is Sawdust and Diamonds again, but I believe it's a tour debut, and it's stunning. Her emotions are right up front and her skill is just astonishing.
