    The All-inclusive Regina Spektor thread

Deserving of her own thread surely?

Yes, she does. Although Far sucked balls.

My favourite of hers and still virtually unknown by the majority of people.

Aw, Loveology is the best. "Porcupineology, antlerology, carology..."

    My favorite lesser-known Regina song:

    "The most special
    Are the most lonely
    I pity the violins
    In glass coffins
    They keep coughing
    They've forgotten,
    Forgotten how to sing"

Recently was given a batch of her b-sides and rarities that I still have yet to fully listen to. But if Loveology is any indication of what I'm going to hear, I am excited to listen.

yes, Loveology is an indication of what you are to hear. This is my favorite non-released song but is a studio demo.

PS I love this homemade video too!

ive been on a huge regina kick lately. I really didn't like far. I mean the songs were catchy, but damn, I love Regina and the piano- that's it.

so tonight out of boredom, I scoured for the best solo versions of as many Far songs as I could and made a mini album I'm aptly calling "Alternative Far". It's so much better. Also since there were so many awesome b-sides for Begin To Hope (many of which I like more than the actual album's content) I think I'll make those into an album...

here's my Hope Leftovers tracklist for those interested (all studio versions!).. this makes a better album for early regina lovers!!:
    1. music box

    8. hero
    9. bartender
    10. rockland county (demo)
    11. BYOS (demo)

^That's a great list! I would've added A Cannon and Just Like The Movies.

A youtube user posted a couple of early shows from 2004. It's quite fascinating watching her way back when.

I love her lesser known more eclectic tracks, but I also think she's a great pop song writer. I like "far". It's not her best, and obviously geared toward a certain audience, but it's got some damn catchy songs. She can write a nice little piano hook!

I would consider Far to be her most consistent album. I really like it as a whole and think it to be a much better album than Begin to Hope.

I have liked Regina from the beginning of her career and am pleased with the direction she has taken. I think the production only adds to her music.

i don't mean to be a partypooper, but i'm just not into regina anymore.

she used to be one of my favorite artists, and i don't really think she's changed as much as i have. where as i once found her music funny and cute, it's now become grating and annoying. far, while not all that different from begin to hope, was categorically abysmal (imo). and i really liked begin to hope.

i'm sorry, regina. it's not you, it's me. hopefully we can part as friends.
I don't understand the question, and I won't respond to it.

I'm newer to Regina> my introduction to her was with Begin to Hope
I have yet to get Soviet Kitsch. Would you qualify it as her best (in print) album?

I haven't taken the gamble on sound quality with bootlegs of Songs & 11:11, and I've read MaryAnn/Gravediggers as a compilation isn't a great representation of either album.

Curious as to why there's so much dislike of Far. What specifically makes it a disappointment?

Loveology and All the Rowboats = love love love!

I think most disliked Far because it was so commercial.

I figured it was something like that.
There are a number of too-poppy songs I skip, but I don't think that it makes it a bad album overall. There are still strong tracks that balance it out, IMO.

For those disappointed by Far, if forced to pick one redeeming song that calls to mind the Regina you fell in love with, what would it be?
