    Rank the Albums!

I know we only have three, but I'm curious! Especially now Have One On Me has had some time to settle in now.

    So, get ranking!

    1. Ys
    2. Have One On Me
    3. The Milk-Eyed Mender

They're all amazing though, really. Ys and HOOM are practically tied for me.

I think Ys and HOOM are tied at the top for me (Ys with a slight edge) and MEM second, but not by much. I love all three of these records so much.

I would rank them in exactly the same way as you two. Ys and HOOM first (Ys being on top but not by a significant amount), and then MEM.

I don't really think there would be much variation among everybody else either. Ys is undoubtedly her masterpiece, and if she ever tops it I would be stunned. HOOM is also epic and beautiful. MEM to me feels like quite a simple, stripped-down album in comparison to the other two but it's still great in its own way. It was as if she was holding back on that album to get her foot in the door, and then once she was out there she completely let go creatively which resulted in Ys.

I try not to be a fanboy of anyone, but the fact is she has made three superb and yet very different albums, and I'd give them each 5/5. She's turning into the artist least likely to disappoint, alongside Sufjan Stevens.

She really is the most talented female artist today. Knock on wood, but I don't think she'll ever make anything bland or uninteresting. Her musical sensibilities and talent are just on a whole other level than most. /fangirl

I wonder if anyone out there would have MEM as their top choice? I know Ys and HOOM are considered masterpeices by most (including me) - but I introduced a friend to Joanna recently and after a few months of having all her music she still says MEM is her favourite.

^^^I know several people for whom MEM is one of their favorite albums of the decade but were completely repulsed by Ys and were long gone by the time HOOM came around.

Yeah, I guess the better question would be: Of the fans who enjoy all her work, do any count MEM as their favourite?

^ Oh yes. Said friend has so far enjoyed everything I've played of Joanna's so far - but still maintain's MEM as her favourite.

^ Yes my partner is a big fan of MEM but has never got in to Ys or HOOM, no matter how hard I've tried. He simply prefers short quirky leftfield songs (especially where he hears a country flavour) and doesnt find enough of that in the others. I've explained that he's wrong, of course, but I do have a lot of affection for MEM too.
