Who Did It Better?! (1 Song 2 Artists)

I'm sure this has been done before. Let's post two versions of a song (by two artists) and comment on both. One obviously doesn't have to be better than the other, and both can be equally evocative. I just didn't know what to name the thread.

I was listening to David Bowie's version of Wild is the Wind for the second time (first in a couple years) and was blown away. I thought Nina's version was untouchable, but both artists make the song achingly beautiful. I think Nina's version is more desperate and almost psychotic, while Bowie's version is almost celebratory. What do you think?

These are two of my favorite artists ever, but I definitely have to go with the original. It's one of my favorites from Ms. Simone. Achingly beautiful.

    Now:

    Crazy in Love

    Beyonce or Antony

    Ooooh fun!

Now which two versions of Hallelujah to pick? Let's try the original and Rufus Wainwright.

    Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah

    Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah

I will always prefer Leonard's version but Rufus comes a close second. I also love KD Lang's version.
Maybe for once, someone will call me "Sir" without adding, "You're making a scene."

Rufus? RUFUS?! No no no no, the correct answer is Jeff Buckley.

You know I never got Jeff Buckley's version. It just doesn't work for me.

I hadn't heard either of those versions before. I think Diamanda Gals' voice suits the song better.

Two more versions of the same song.

    Heather Nova - Gloomy Sunday

    Marianne Faithful - Gloomy Sunday

This. Any other answer is actually factually incorrect.

^That particular recording (Tori's) is my favorite version of Landslide.. erection sounding lyric and all. ETA: That video doesn't include the full song.

There's something about Tori tinkling away on the higher notes of the piano and being all breathy that I just could never get into on that particular song; Landslide for me will always be Stevie, with the '97/'98 era ones and the 1975 original always coming to mind first.
