(I'm so excited for the new album, Homeland)

What a fantastic interview, Part 2 too. Thank you for posting. I think the concert for dogs idea is so funny and unique.

Homeland is streaming at NPR for the next few days; on my first listen I was impressed. It sounded dark and fresh. Big Science is one of my favourite records, and one of my favourite album covers too

Oh god I'm really digging "Homeland" and am so so glad Laurie's still putting out relevant, disturbing, funny Laurie Anderson music in 2010. Listening to "Only an Expert" for the first time was actually cathartic. Love her!

According to my iTunes I've listened to "Only an Expert" 29 times since June 22.

I love the album, indeed not only is it smart and beautiful, but funny too.

    My favorites are (kinda obvious):

    Only an Expert
    Falling
    Another Day in America
    The Beginning of Memory
    Flow

It's also exciting since this is the first Laurie Anderson release I've heard alongside everyone else. I didn't become a fan until around 2002, after Life on A String and the live album were released.

"Only an Expert" is totally begging for some awesome Youtube mash-up of news footage from the past ten years. It even kind of SOUNDS like that, y'know? Some thoughtless background music to a propaganda powerpoint video.

Ha, yeah. I picture people dancing to it in an ironic, unknowing way. Like Wolf Blitzer dancing next to some Goldman Sachs guys next to the BP CEO next to Oprah and so on. Like really getting down and dancing hardcore because they don't get the commentary of the song, they think it's sincere. I guess that video idea would require some CGI magic though!

Saw her live last night, front row! Excellent show. Only An Expert was the highlight for me.

Did anyone get the accompanying DVD of Homeland? What's on it? Is it the live show?

    "Only An Expert" fucking OWNS.

Did anyone catch her doing it on Letterman? Edited for time, of course, but an interesting arrangement based largely on what I believe was a bass saxophone.

Didn't see that Letterman performance yet but I'm going to go looking for it now, thanks for posting about it.

Today I bought Mister Heartbreak on vinyl at a record fair. Had never heard it before. What a weird and funny little album! It's made me want to go off somewhere exotic where it's hot and sunny and there's sand and beautiful blue ocean.

I'm still getting to know it but I'm finding it quite addictive actually!

Here's Only an Expert from Letterman that Steve mentioned

"Now let's say you want to be on Oprah
But you don't have a problem
But you want to go on the show
    So you need a problem
    So you invent a problem
But if you're not an expert in problems
You're probably not going to make up a very plausible problem
So you're probably going to get nailed
    You're going to get exposed
Now you have to bow down and apologise
And beg for the public's forgiveness"

I am so out of the loop sometimes. I totally missed this thread the first time around. I had no idea a new album was out either. I'm going to have to take a trip out this weekend to see if I can find it.

The interviews were great. She looks fantastic and seems, so exuberant about her life and work. So inspiring.
