It appears that one of the audience cams on the all access feature for the show is set on Gaga.

... here i am!
Compared to everything else she's ever done, this whole Art Pop thing seems so vanilla. I'm just not getting it! To each their own of course.

Wow I loved it. I'm surprised to see negative reactions, to be honest! I thought she totally killed it.
I don't like Applause but I thought her performance was pretty great!
My fave performance after JT.
I was pretty happy with the performance. I wish the song was more of a banger, but I thought she was on point.
I adored the beginning of the performance. The look on her face, she was demented basically. That's hot. I'm not too keen on the actual performance though as I think reflecting on her past after only 5 years is try-hard and pretentious. Also, there was way too much going on for her to sing correctly. What's with the bowling ball? And those seashells? The idea of changing on stage was good but I'm not sure the whole thing was very well executed. It felt more cartoonish than musical though.
i loved the performance too. looked like she was having a blast up there too which was probably the best part.

^ yeah, she held up the ball during the Koons line:

and the seashell look is very Birth of Venus.
Perez and Entertainment Weekly both thought that the booing and hissing were coming from the audience. Wasn't it clear that it was part of the act?

I don't think it would necessarily be clear to just anyone watching (but I completely agree that it was).
I'm sorry but I cannot imagine how anyone could have thought they were anything other than prerecorded.
I've watched it a couple times, and I really liked it. Her facial expressions sold me.
It also seemed to me rather obvious that the boos were part of the performance. Why would anyone boo the opening act at the VMAs?
Her energy and spirit made the performance entertaining more than anything else in it for me.
