Possibly her tightest album and my favorite. The songs still always get me in an awesome mood.

It's one of the Madonna albums I do not own. I should remedy this.

An awesome debut. "Borderline" remains one of my all-time favorite Madonna songs--even with a thin voice, she knew how to totally sell a song from day one. The filler tracks are not offensive like they are on some other albums. And many times as I've heard "Holiday," it's still not played out.

I like how this album really captures the essence of early Madonna ... carnal, ballsy, and in-your face ("Burning Up"), but also romantic and capable of great tenderness ("Borderline").

An interesting side-note, but the first album features 4 of the mere 5 songs from Madonna's entire official catalog in which she holds sole writing credit: "Lucky Star," "Burning Up," "I Know It," and "Everybody." Pretty neat, huh? The only other song that shares this distinction is "Shoo-Bee-Doo" from Like a Virgin.

I'm pretty sure he said "Killdren". Stone's Avatar

What a great debut. "Borderline"'s my favorite, but "Burning Up" is also ace and makes me wonder what a Madonna rock album would sound like. Maybe for the next record? (Who knows, there was a rumor a few years back that she was going to work with Franz Ferdinand...)

Those videos are a trip, it's so funny to see proto-Madonna. And why was there a tableaux from a Samuel Beckett play happening in the background of "Holiday"?

Mark Kamins, Madonna's one-time boyfriend and the DJ who essentially helped launch her career, has died.

Madonna had this to say about his passing:

"I'm very sorry to hear about Mark's death. I haven't seen him for years but if it weren't for him, I might not have had a singing career. He was the first DJ to play my demos before I had a record deal. He believed in me before anyone else did. I owe him a lot. May he Rest in Peace."

Sad. He produced Everybody, which along with Borderline are the reasons I fell in love with her so many years ago.
