One of my favourites. Really underrated. Something to Remember is easily one of the most beautiful ballads Madonna has ever written.

The first Madonna album I heard all the way through. "Cry Baby" and "I'm Going Bananas" are terrible, but otherwise I fucking love this album. She sounds like Bernadette Peters on several of the songs ... her voice is rich, slinky, insinuating. I know she's had some dodgy live vocal performances, but I do think this woman got way too little credit for her vocal abilities for much of her career.

"Something to Remember" is indeed gorgeous, and even though she just sings one or two lines on "What Can You Lose?" she brings such genuine yearning to the song. Beautiful.

I love that this album came out just a year after LAP. She was really stretching herself in interesting directions ... and not just when she was pretend-masturbating on stage

Stephen Fucking Sondheim wrote what is now considered one of his classic songs originally for Madonna ("Sooner or Later"). Enough said. The end.

It's interesting, too, to think that the two kings of Broadway, Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber, each won Academy Awards for songs that Madonna originated.
