One of my favorite albums by anyone. I love how much trip hop influence there is in this record, too. I've been collecting the singles from this one; found pt. 1 of the title track last night for 99¢ and otherwise have pt 2, Drowned World, and Frozen.

Yes to all of this. I have Nothing Really Matters (the one with the cool artwork), Drowned World (white cover), the French edition of the Ray of Light single (with b-side!!) and The Power of Good-Bye (the German one). For some reason I never got around to buying Frozen, which was still available not that long ago. :/

Perfect video era, in my opinion. Each one suited the album so well.

Yeah, all of mine are UK singles except Frozen; unfortunately that's the 2-track US cd-tray with just Shanti/Ashtangi as the b-side.

for shame that the album didn't get any #1 singles. Celine blocked Frozen and NRM was a total failure thanks to Warner's half baked promotion and single release schedule. Besides, it should have been third single.

I think this and American Life (terribly underrated) are my favorite albums from her. Some of her most unique songs are on it. Mer Girl, especially. I remember the first time I actually listened to it. I was blown away by the lyrics.

And let's not forget "Has to Be," her best b-side ever. This song will always be track 14 of the album for me. I can't listen to Ray of Light without this song.

^Yes, I love Has to Be. I used to listen to it on repeat and wallow in my depression.

Ray Of Light is really the album that made me a Madonna fan. I bought it on the day of release. "Frozen" used to give me chills. I remember driving through downtown Atlanta and hearing it on the radio. I will always associate that song to that time and place. The Power of Goodbye video always makes me tear up. Such a beautiful and emotional thing to watch. My least favorite song and the only one I skip on the album is Shanti/Ashtangi. My favorite song is probably Sky Fits Heaven.

^ Yep. My fandom began the day the "Frozen" video premiered on MTV. The angsty 14 year old that I was just ate it up and I never looked back.

Also, I wish "Ray of Light" (the song) would be recognized for the amazing cover that it is.

Wow, I never knew this either. And you know, that original song is not half bad at all.

Yep. According to legend, William Orbit reworked the original song with a singer named Christine Leach. When Christine didn't use it, Orbit offered it to Madonna who then tweaked a couple of lyrics (hence her writing credit) and there you go.
