WTP on vinyl? Thank god I chose the 3 months subscription! And I don't care if the other two vinyls are the B*Witched ones, worst case scenario I can resell them for 3 dollars or something.
Now, the Jon Brion version of EM on vinyl, that would be incredible. That version has THE version of "Oh well"; the vocals on the official version are just ok, but in the Brion version, at the end of the song, her voice breaks and... shit, that's one of the best things Fiona has recorded.

^ i totally agree about Oh Well. from the line "oh what a cold and common old way to go..." on to the final line is just heartbreaking perfection.

it really boggles my mind that she didn't keep Brion's version for the official release like she did with the title track and Waltz.

I'm glued to every Vinyl Me Please mailing list e-mail now lol. One just came through with Fiona's name in the subject line, but it was just them sending the Tidal cocktail recipe. I suspect I'm going to be desperately refreshing my e-mail for months since we really don't have any idea of the timeline!

How do we know they're releasing the whole catalogue?

I am drooling over the When the Pawn with the red layer of butter paper (if that's what it's called in English) like the original pressing of the CD (with the picture of her face right behind it, as opposed to the latter pressings with the whole cover in one image). But I fear that might never happen. Or maybe Sony realizes the potential for such release and release it themselves? I would be pretty happy either way.

Just a little FYI- the vinyl pressing of Idler Wheel might be rare to find because it was mispressed somehow. The audio quality is really, really poor. It's way too low and you can hardly hear anything.

ETA- I am fearing they won't announce the next album of the month until after they've charged everyone for the next month subscription? I think they charge around the 15th and announce June's AOTM on the 20th? I might just remove the billing info until I know what the next AOTM is.

ETA 2- I would totally kill for an original version of EM on vinyl. Hell, even for a 320 KBPS MP3 version of that. The actual, finished Brion version. Because according to everyone, the version that leaked originally no one knows who mixed or leaked it and it's supposedly not representative of what they were doing with it.

That's the way it is with basically all subscription-delivery services. You find out what you're getting after the charge so they can push the longterm subscriber model instead of people signing up for one month for one particular goodie and then canceling immediately afterwards - otherwise they're no different from a general store that does featured sales.

I'm listening right now. The booklet and packaging are gorgeous - and the sound so far is perfection. They really made this one worth the money.

"But he washed me ashore and he took my pearl / And left an empty shell of me"

Fuck me she's brilliant. I maybe didn't realize Matt played drums on Tidal; I thought he was only on WtP, but to be fair I didn't know who he was when Tidal came out. I probably haven't even looked at the booklet in 20 years!

I had no idea the red paper layer was only used in the original pressing! That's interesting. For those who own the WTP CD, remember the pic on the back of the booklet of Fiona in the studio? She has a book on her lap. I borrowed the album from the public library where I often spent time browsing the biography and entertainment aisles. The book cover looks very similar to an autobiography by pianist Oscar Levant called "The Memoirs of an Amnesiac." He acted in a few films, including An American in Paris for MGM.

My copy arrived today! (the USABox does work, btw)

I'm listening"Criminal", and for the first time I'm paying attention to the bass (don't know why I ignored it all this time). That bass is SEX.
Please, do yourself a favor and play this very loud. "Slow like honey" sounds like she's singing right next to you. This is awesome.

^ I was also going to say that Slow Like Honey (probably my least favorite Fiona track, though that's not much of an indictment) sounded stunning. I found myself totally mesmerized by her voice on that one.

I don't know how true is this, but apparently When The Pawn on vinyl will be available next month on the Vinyl Me Please store. That's what they're saying on the VMP forum. And there's people of the VMP staff there, so it might be true.
