    Oh God. Hang on Betty!

Golden Girls literally shaped a part of my life, I hate to see them almost all die off.

Tom Leahy Jr. died. I know none of you care, but us Kansas kids just lost Major Astro.

Leahy ended each day's show by saying "Join me next time when everything will be a-okay, and all systems will be go. Happy orbits, boys and girls. I'll see you tomorrow". He would then put on his space suit helmet, and walk out the door of his base station, presumably to his waiting space ship, which could be seen during the program through a "window" at the rear of the base station. During the 80's, Major Astro used a space shuttle set.

Tom Leahy died June 19th, 2010 at the age of 87.

    RIP, Dear Lady

Dixie Carter, who was best known for playing Julia Sugarbaker on Designing Women, passed away in April of Cancer.

^ I was very surprised to learn that she was very conservative politically, considering her liberal tirades on DW. (I guess that's called acting?) I read somewhere that she had a deal with the creators of the show - every time she had to do a liberal speech they had to let her sing.

I had no idea Dixie passed away. I loved Designing Women when I was little.

Yes, she was incredibly conservative. Which made me a bit sad when I found out, because the character Julia Sugarbaker was one that I really looked up to growing up. She made it okay to be an outspoken, opinionated, liberal woman. Of course, Dixie herself was free to be both of the former things, but her opinions were ones I wouldn't agree with so much as I'd agree with Julia's.

    awwww

I just saw her on Law and Order SVU the other day (Probably an older episode). I loved her. The "Night the Lights Went out in Georgia" speech is my favorite DW moment.

    on saramago...

"If I had died when I was 60, I would have written nothing."

i thought that quote was rather remarkable and insightful from such a fantastic writer.

    RIP Harvey Pekar

Harvey Pekar, the irascible writer who spun the mundane details of his own life and the quotidian existences of his fellow Cleveland residents into comic-book narratives, and who showed that the comic-book panel could include everyday feelings of anxiety and disappointment as easily as it does the adventures of costumed heroes, has died.
I never thought about love when I thought about home
