    The Cure

For one reason or another, this band doesn't get very much discussion despite several fantastic records over the years.

Arguably their best effort, Disintegration was just re-released in fantastic 3-cd / 180g double-vinyl remastered formats. The murky production that kind of plagued the original release has been effectively cleaned up. This was well worth the wait.

The progression of Prayers for Rain -> The Same Deep Water as You -> Disintegration floors me every time. Perfect sequencing.

Now they just need to get on Wish so the Lost Wishes can get similarly cleaned up.

I knew the odd song but I hadn't investigated a full album until tonight - I've been listening to Pornography

Have been quite enjoying it! Any other Cure fans in the house? I'm a newbie

I fucking LOVE this band. Wish is my favorite record, but a lot of TC fans hate it. They think it's not a good succesor of Disintegration.

BTW, Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers are a trilogy. The last one is very difficult to get into it IMHO.

The only TC record I don't like (or get?) is Wild Mood Swings. It's very different for what they'd done until the day they released it. Also, many people don't like their recent albums, but I think they both are great in their own ways. Robert Smith said once "If you don't like The Cure (the album from 2004), you can't like TC at all". Well, he said something like that, don't take it literally

One good way to get into The Cure is listening to their big hits. You can try Galore, from 1997, a Greatest Hits album.

Staring at the Sea (or Standing on a Beach depending on location) and Galore are both wonderful entry level releases. They do have a Greatest Hits disc as well, but I feel it kind of waters things down a bit much, and it cuts out almost all the early post-punk/darker singles.

Bloodflowers will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first new release I got to enjoy since becoming a fan at the time, and the first time I saw them on tour. It will always remind me of spring semester, freshman year of college. I played the shit out of that cd. But it is probably the most morose thing they've put out, aside from perhaps Pornography.

Join the Dots, their 4-disc b-sides collection is about as essential as Siouxsie's Downside Up, if not more so. There's been historically questionable decisions made throughout the years with regards to what didn't make it on any albums. And that collection pretty much has it ALL.

Thanks for the recommendations, I had a listen to Staring At The Sea. There were a few songs there I had heard bits of before but had no idea were The Cure! Will investigate studio albums a bit more closely.

Disintegration was their last truly great album. I started listening to the Cure when I was about 12 (1987) and bought up all the tapes and vinyls I could get my grubby little hands on. That includes the singles with the b-sides. For me, Disintegration is in the top ten perfect albums of all time. (Boys for Pele is in that list.)

Several weeks late on this, but The Cure are performing two very special concerts entitled "Reflections" in at the Sydney Opera House in the next few days.

    May 31st + June 1st
The band's first thee albums - Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, and Faith will be performed in their entirety, each with a unique lineup.

3IB (The Cure Trio) - Robert Smith (vox/gtr), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums)
17Sec (The Cure Quartet) - Robert Smith (vox/gtr), Simon Gallup (bass), Roger O'Donnell (keys/perc), Jason Cooper (drums)
Faith (The Cure Quintet) - Robert Smith (vox/gtr), Simon Gallup (bass), Roger O'Donnell (keys/perc), Laurence Tolhurst (keys/perc), Jason Cooper (drums)

These will be Laurence (Lol) Tolhurst's first performances with the band since December 1987, and Roger O'Donnell's first since November 2004. It is unclear if these performances will lead to a more permanent role in the band for either member.

YES!! Long long long overdue. They've been eligible since at least 2005. Here's hoping they make it. It would be kind of perfect timing with a new album (or new activity) coming in 2012.

    I like Wild Mood Swings
Не може со обични зборови да ја домами необичноста, зашто и необичните си имаат секој свој пат и тешко се среќаваат.
