OITNB is one of the best shows I've seen in a while - I think the writing is amazing. It's so refreshing to see a cast of women portrayed like real women in what I would think is a very accurate representation of a real life situation. I love how we are able to follow the stories of other characters besides the leads and not be bored or put off by "filler." Every story matters. Every character makes you care. I laugh, I cry, I'm on the edge of my seat. Ugh. This show is too much. LOVE IT.

Just finished it and I agree! So many good lines and characters - I don't know who was my favorite. Funny, smart, thrilling. Can't wait for season 2.

I totally relate to Piper, but at the same time I realize she is a terrible person in a lot of ways. A lot less likable and "good" than many of the people in the prison who've done "worse" things. As an aside, the actress is a dead ringer for Emily Haines, and I can't get that out of my head whenever I'm watching her.
She reminds me of Yvonne Strahovski who played Hannah McKay in Dexter. Of course, the orange suit definately helped

    ^ I see a blonde Dianne Farr.

I just finished the show tonight, and holy shit. There really wasn't a disappointing episode in the series. The only prisoner I truly dislike is Pennsatucky. There is nothing redeeming about her.

Do others find the relationship between Bennett and Daya creepy? I know it's presented otherwise, and a lot of people seem to love it (or at least Bennett's character) because he's "sweet", but I think it'd be even worse if not for Pornstache. Anyone seems like a good guy next to him. Bennett with Daya feels like a college professor with a freshman student. And I know that she flirted with him first, but he's still in the position of power.

I found it a little untoward, yes. Of course, they were two characters I cared very little about, especially him, and their relationship is mostly uninteresting. I'm not invested in their storyline.

That could be part of it as well. I just don't really care about them.

I watched this whole series in three days. I love this show so much. My only disappointment is that they were doing a fairly good job of introducing the back stories for the other women, and then suddenly that stopped three or four episodes from the end. I'd like to see more of that.

I cried when Yoga Jones told the story about how she ended up in prison. There've been a few emotional moments (like Taystee's story of why she couldn't make it in the outside world), but Yoga Jones really got me. Miss Claudette, too! I hope we haven't seen the last of her.

Ryan, I'm so glad you watched! The whole series I was waiting to hear Yoga Jones' backstory. I totally cried too. Also, did you realize that Yoga Jones is Patty Mayonnaise?!

Now I'll never watch the show the same way again.

Such a great show! I started watching because of this show and finished the whole first season in 4 days. I wish I had gone at a slower pace, but I can always watch it again.

I watched this show in a few days and I loved it!! It wasn't at all what I was expecting, and I had such a great time getting to know and care about each of the characters. I love the exploration of what someone's "true" self really is - the moment of choice each of them had - the affects imprisonment has had on the inmates and families - well done!

I love Crazy Eyes, but I think Poussey is my favorite. ACCENT A GRAVE, BITCH!

Kudos to the writing crew on this show. Nearly every line is a meme waiting to happen.
Wishing I hadn't agreed to watch exclusively with my boyfriend. Having one episode left is painful.

Page one in this thread I spoke of Laura Prepon being hard to watch. At that point I'd only seen episodes 1 & 2 which are flashback heavy. I still think during the earliest episodes something in the styling and volume of the Piper/Larry/Alex flashbacks distract from the story/ I'd be left thinking Donna as a Rockabilly dafuk rather than paying attention to the plot.

Watching more episodes and seeing her character flesh out/progress has changed my tune. Now I can't picture anyone else playing the role and think she does better than fine.

Also, 7th grade Taylor Schilling under the cut. (Holding onto a Middle School yearbook: Hoarding?)

Just finished the season. Jason Biggs' character painfully reminds me of my ex, which made it hard to finish the series as the end drew near but personal issues aside, I really liked it. I think my favorite characters are Miss Claudette and Red, though I think all of the characters are well-written and great. Excited to see where season 2 takes things.
