    Cibo Matto

Didn't see another thread about them so decided to start my own. I'm really looking forward to Hotel Valentine.

I first discovered Cibo Matto back in University. One of my dorm-mates had a promo copy of Viva La Woman that I ended up keeping months. I was addicted to it. Apple, Theme, Le Pain Perdu, even Sugar Water. Such amazing tracks. Reminded me somewhat of Bjork's oeuvre but they were definitely doing their own thing.

I think Hotel Valentine could break them big. In a way that Stereotype A wasn't able to. Let's hope!

I really loved them too. I even saw them live once, it was great. I hope the new album is interesting.

Whenever I feel like having a bit of 90s reminiscence, I invariably have to put on a bit of Cibo Matto.

I also love those bonding moments when I start singing or rapping one of their songs and someone else actually recognizes it.
Sometimes I think the so-called "experts" actually are experts.

Apple, Sugar Water and Sunday Pt. 2 are such fantastic tracks. I've been waiting anxiously for a new album from them since 2011.

I think Hotel Valentine is amazing. I can easily see myself liking it as much as their other albums, which I consider classics.

I'm very bummed out about how Hotel Valentine turned out. It tries too hard to be 'weird' and the same tricks are used over and over. I'm all for unusual song structures, but the twists and transitions in each song are often jarring and feel forced. Sadly, there's nothing truly exciting or interesting about Hotel Valentine because there's no compelling melodies anywhere. These songs all sound so subdued and boring, they blend together. After a handful of spins, things didn't get much better. The only songs I think I'll keep are Check Out, Lobby and maaaaybe Empty Pool.

Boost, anyone going to be checking out Cibo Matto live this year? They're playing a couple of shows in the LA/OC area.
