Thread: Unrepentant Geraldines: your reviews and impressions

16 Shades of Blue has been one of my UG favorites since the beginning, but I know the reaction to it around here was kind of mixed. Has anyone else fallen in love with it/warmed up to it?

Definitely. It was one of my favorites initially, and I like it even more now.

I feel like with all of UG, we got a Tori Amos album full of demos. And I think that's a really good thing.

Whenever she sings "I am now too old to play" I want her to bust out in a long angry piano solo. Besides that, I love it.
All I want to be is the very best machine I can be.

I still really like UG. I just don't understand why adding Geraldines to the album title was necessary. I would have called the album 'Unrepentant' and had Unrepentant Geraldines as one of the songs. She seems to be really into having title track songs for some reason, particularly on "concept albums"... LE, FTCH/Hotel, SLG(s), SW, TBK, ADP/MPCD, AATS, NOH and UG.

My ideal tracklist would be the following. There are a lot of water/weather/nature songs that I clumped together:

    1. America
    2. Trouble's Lament
    3. Wedding Day
    4. Weatherman
    5. 16 Shades of Blue
    6. Maids of Elfen-Mere
    7. Selkie
    8. Oysters
    9. Rose Dover
    10. Forest of Glass
    11. Unrepentant Geraldines
    12. Invisible Boy

B-Sides (even as an EP at the end of the album would have worked):
    Wild Way
    Giant's Rolling Pin
    Promise
    White Telephone
    Dixie

^Change 16 shades and Maids for Wild Way and Dixie, send Unrepentant Geraldines to the EP, and that's my version. (I like Promise, though. It just doesn't belong to this album, it should be in TBK)

16 Shades of Blue is Tori's Hollaback Girl. That is all.

I'm not a fan of Invisible Boy either. I find it boring and contrived.

I like Rose Dover, but I think it could have brewed longer and had some of the more obvious bits taken out.
