Don’t even think for a second I had any idea
I thought you always wanted me like I wanted you
I just stood there motionless while you turned on me
By the time I got my wits about me there was nothing I could do

I was living in a bad dream nothing by design
You’re caught up in your spotlight of your agitated mind
Just minding my own business just rolling down the road
Trying not to take it personally this heavy, heavy load

And you can’t imagine how far what was happening was from
    What was happening for me
    What was happening floored me
Cos I thought we were perfect
I just knew it was all worth it
And yes, everything I would listen to the first thing in the morning

It didn’t matter if I turned left or I turned right
It didn’t matter if I tossed and turned all night
I just couldn’t do nothing right

I was caught up in the spotlight of your agitated mind
Just minding my own business, just rolling down the road
Trying not to take it personally this heavy, heavy load.
    Who said you were evil?
    My SAT scores.

I just finished her book. I was really surprised to learn that she was hitting rock bottom when I started getting into her. I think I started following her closely after R&R. I remember thinking her setlists were getting shorter, but she still put on a great show on stage. It was also crazy to read about the Central Park performance when Sekou passed away that day. I remember being at the concert and really excited that she played "Grey" (one of my favorites). And I distinctly remember her talking about the Falcon!

I knew something must have been up when she released Evolve and then abruptly dissolved the band.

It was a good read. Like others said, I didn't realize how little I knew about her until I read the book. Her passion for dancing was a surprise to me. Ani Difranco is wrapped up in so much nostalgia for me. I've been listening to her music a lot since reading the book. I'll have to give some of her most recent work a shot. Any suggestions on stand out albums after Knuckle Down?

@chris - I *love* Reprieve. She hired an outside producer for it, the only time she has ever done that, I believe, and it has some really nice atmospheric stuff going on. And great songs. Beyond that I don't know. I bought Educated Guess, Which Side?, Allergic to Water, and Binary on vinyl after finishing the book. But I haven't listened to any of them yet.

Which Side is her best album in a long time, IMO. Hearse is a very Ani version of a love song.

Which Side Are You On is her best recent work, in my opinion. For sure. Life Boat, Albacore, Hearse, Zoo... it's really a stellar album across the board.
