I could get used to these random surprise singles![]()
The new single should be up online to buy/stream (if it's Friday where you live).
Both of these songs were recorded during the Recording in Progress sessions - they used to be included on the longlist on the wall, along with "Guilty" (already surprise-released last year), " Age of the Dollar", "The Boy", "Homo Sappy Blues", and "Imagine This". So perhaps more singles will come before they wrap up the tour and promo cycle for the album in autumn.
I love these two new tracks. I especially like how she and the backing vocalist are subtly mimicking stuttering in "I'll Be Waiting" since it's sung from the point of view of a child suffering from post-war trauma.

I never really warmed up to HSDP, but damned if "I'll Be Waiting" didn't just make my eyes misty.
I wasn't a huge fan of Hope Six initially, but I must say it's really grown on me, and aged very well I think.
I added several HS tracks with Guilty, I'll Be Waiting, and A Dog Called Money, along with several tracks from LES, to a playlist I've been listening to. They work really well together, and with the playlist generally, which I called Fall 2018 (sigh). It includes The Breeders (selections from Pod, All Nerve, Safari, Last Splash, and [The Amps' album] Pacer), some moody Philip Glass and Michael Nyman pieces, Agnes Obel, Hauschka, and the new Santigold album which I've been listening to constantly. It's a really good playlist!
One thing about PJ Harvey, she has never lost quality control - not once.
What do we really know about Guilty, I'll Be Waiting, and A Dog Called Money? I have to assume they weren't written or recorded until after the record was done, because they are *excellent* songs, and Hope Six is so much stronger with them in my opinion. Listening to Guilty on earphones right now - it's incredible, the drums totally do it for me (as they do in The Orange Monkey). Although I do think the rando/single approach is actually pretty cool. I wish more artists were doing that.
Also, I know a lot of folks here don't love Let England Shake as an album, but how do people feel about The Glorious Land? Because I think it's brilliant and one of her very best songs ever (and that's saying something, given the incredible strength of her catalog).
PJH announces documentary A Dog Called Money
I got excited at the idea of a career-spanning PJH documentary, but this appears to be just the HSDP session and other footage (like LES)
^ Thanks. Wow - finally. I was kind of assuming she'd lost interest in the project, wasn't happy with the experience or the record or the reception to it.... and just moved on. Apparently she was just taking her time.
As the insanity of so-called "social justice" rears its screeching head for ever stupider bullshit, this album gets better and better as time goes on.
There are some news on her instagram channel as well as on her facebook page on the documentary "A dog called money"
