"PJ Harvey is recording her ninth studio album as an exhibition within the Inland Revenue’s former staff gymnasium and rifle range at Somerset House, London,

From Jan 16th visitors will see and hear PJ Harvey, her guest musicians, recording engineers, and producers Flood and John Parish in a glazed architecturally-designed studio. For forty-five minutes at a time, groups of people will experience the crafting of a record, which could be anything from laying down a bass drum track, to discussions, improvisation, through to full performances of new songs.

One-way glass and sound proofing ensure that the musicians can concentrate on their work, but the space and the people who move through it will help to create both the process and presentation of this project."

Getting tickets to this has been an absolute bitch!

The Somerset House website hasn't been able to cope with the demand, it's taken me countless attempts and 1 3/4 hours to get some tickets but I did it.
Looks like this'll sell out sooner rather than later so if you're planning on trying to make it don't delay on getting tickets!

Wow, she is full of surprises! She's probably one of the last artists I'd ever expect to put their process on display like this.

^I've been trying for almost an hour David, and no luck so far. It looks like most of the times have already sold out.

Oh I just managed to get a ticket for an afternoon in February. Yipee!

    This is quite bizarre.

If I had the money, I would soooo do this! even if it meant that I watched PJ rifle through papers for 45 minutes.

The Somerset House site is indicating that this has already sold out. I love that she's incorporating the public into the recording process while simultaneously generating a buzz for her new album. It's a very clever union of art and commerce. If I weren't saving for a wedding, I'd likely have maxed out a cc to find a way to attend this. I'm super stoked to hear accounts from people who have attended!
