I just noticed I spelled her name incorrectly - it's Gong Li. Anyway she is super gorgeous and super talented and has appeared in so many excellent films including Red Sorghum, Raise the Red Lantern, Farewell My Concubine, Zhou Yu's Train, 2046, and Memoirs of a Geisha.

As an aside, the Red Hot Chili Peppers wrote a song about her.

Gong Li made a movie called Chinese Box. Jeremy Irons is in it, too. One of my favorite movies to watch because of the incredible city scapes. I love the story. I love the backdrop of Hong Kong transitioning back to Chinese control.
The scene with Gong Li and JI on the roof top with the plane flying in is one of the most gorgeous scenes I've ever seen in film. I think the movie is on Youtube is rather good quality.
You have to remember that Gong Li didn't speak English fluently when she filmed Memoirs and Chinese Box was filmed in the middle '90s and her character had to speak English.
She may go down as one of the greatest actresses to never be known by the main stream. Of course so many of her performances were Oscar worthy but Asian actors have never got their due.

Making this list is harder than ranking Tori Amos songs for me. I'll have to think on this one for a while.

In no particular order except for the first two:

    Kate Winslet
    Meryl Streep
    Isabelle Huppert
    Catherine Deneuve
    Charlotte Rampling
    Kristin Scott Thomas
    Nicole Kidman
    Cate Blanchett
    Matt Damon
    Glenn Close

Honourable mentions go to Sandra Bullock (she was a major favourite when I was younger. I still think she's pretty hilarious, though her dramatic roles leave something to be desired), and Sophia Loren (I need to watch more of her films).

If we're including actors that are no longer with us, I'd have to add Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, and Alan Rickman (STILL SOBBING) to the list.

Great thread idea! This is very tough. I had to make two lists..

    Benicio del Toro
    Miranda Richardson
    Jeff Bridges
    Laura Dern
    Andrew Garfield
    Isaach de Bankolé
    Linda Manz

    DEAD:
    Dennis Hopper
    Ingrid Bergman
    James Dean
    Paul Newman
    Katrin Cartlidge
    Shelley Winters
    Ben Gazzara
    Richard Harris
    Susanne Lothar

THIS IS VERY HARD. Only picking living actors.

    Kate Winslet
    Daniel Day Lewis
    Meryl Streep
Leonardo DiCaprio (sometimes he falls flat, but everything he does is at the very least interesting)
    Ewan McGregor
    Helen Mirren
    Morgan Freeman
    Cate Blanchett
    Ralph Fiennes
    Ian McKellen

Ugh this is probably wrong but this is what I can come up with!

ETA: I almost put Naomi Watts on here. It was really close.

This is super tough. In no particular order, living only and I'll probably change me mind as others post and remind me of everyone I've forgotten.

    Kevin Spacey
    Mary-Louise Parker
    Gary Oldman
    Audrey Tautou
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Still had to check how to spell his name though!)
    Steve Buscemi
    Katey Segal
    Jodie Foster
    Robert De Niro
    Tamsin Greig
Maybe for once, someone will call me "Sir" without adding, "You're making a scene."
