Jungle and drum & bass were seriously annoying to me at the time, and the years have been less kind. I tried listening to a GOLDIE album again recently and promptly turned it off.

Taking this thread BACK in the direction of objectively awful, cheesy crap that influenced no one... who doesn't love a little 1999/Y2K cybergoth?? It's a great palette cleanser if you find yourself listening to too much.. uh... quality music.

^ Yeah that's awful. Trying WAY too hard, and so fucking derivative.

I'm not sure how obscure this was, but I loved this song!

    Mother America is brandishing
    Her weapons
She keeps me safe and warm
    By threats and misconceptions
    Hmmm, Seems fitting!

If you want might not actually be that obscure but still totally fitting:

Buffy Sainte-Marie - The Priests of the Golden Bull

It's delicate confronting these priests of the golden bull
They preach from the pulpit of the bottom line
Their minds rustle with million dollar bills
You say Silver burns a hole in your pocket
And Gold burns a hole in your soul
Well, uranium burns a hole in forever
It just gets out of control

There was a crooked man who walked a crooked mile
He raised a crooked sixpence to hide a crooked style
He won a crooked vote and smiled a crooked smile
    Windego
The whole Coincidence and Likely Stories album is an absolute gem.
Maybe for once, someone will call me "Sir" without adding, "You're making a scene."

I'm not rushing out to buy any of the Mansun vinyl reissues yet, but if they repress this one I'm all over it.

Some Canadian gems from my youth:

Jann Arden - Could I Be Your Girl

Amanda Marshall - Let It Rain

    Sky - Love Song

    Chantal Kreviazuk - Before You

Kim Stockwood - 12 Years Old (bonus: the Eurodance remix of the song that I discovered a few years back)

Stars on 54 - If You Could Read My Mind (not actually sung by Canadian artists, nor am I certain how obscure this actually is, but it's a Eurodance cover of a plaintive ballad by Canadian folk legend Gordon Lightfoot)
