I agree with all the above ^

I'm sick of the Democrats tiptoeing around and being cautious about everything. Do you think the Republicans give a shit how they come off? They are running around breaking laws, packing courts, stealing Supreme Court seats, aiding human rights violations, etc. They don't give a shit. They just care about winning any way that they can. I'm not advocating that the Dems go crazy ignoring the law, but a little backbone would be nice to see. If they don't start impeachment in the fall it is going to do more harm than good to the party. The question of impeachment will just hang in the air into the election. The base will continue to be demoralized at the inaction. And there goes the election. We won the midterms because we said we would hold Trump accountable. Impeachment is accountability. It is showing the public that Democrats care about the rule of law and that Trump is not above it. It is about having some actual fucking courage.

    This is so frustrating.

Impeachment might serve another, cynical purpose. Trump generally has a very low ceiling for support. Impeachment shouldn't be looked at as inducement for moderates and Never Trumpers. But one could look at is as a depressant. We just need a few thousand swing votes in WI, PA, MI (and maybe FL, AZ, and TX) to either vote Dem or stay home. Stay home works just as well.

Impeachment isn't going to shed any noticeable Dem votes, but it might make Republican enthusiasm wane. When Trump fights the unified Dems, like during the shut down, he loses and looks like a big fucking crybaby. If he spends the next 16 months whining, it's not going to help his Strong Man image. It seems the Dems want to do one thing to make a big difference but it's 1000 smaller battles to pick off almost individual voters here and there. Impeachment itself isn't THE answer but part of an answer. It's not the ultimate success but the process of it. If lying under oath gets rid of 100 voter and danging pardons another 100 and paying off porn stars another 100, it adds up.

I take a little comfort in seeing both Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris calling for impeachment.

I agree with Susan Hennessey here

And legally speaking, technically an impeachment process has started, as the judiciary cmte has requested documents with the purpose of furthering an impeachment investigation. Not a full on, declared one, but the steps TO get to that point.

    Hmm. Seems... swampy

Helly Nahmad. Owns the entire 51st floor of Trump Tower.

Pleaded guilty and received 12-month prison sentence in 2014 for operating an illegal, multi-million $ gambling business out of Trump Tower. Case tied to notorious Russian mafia "boss of all bosses" Semion Mogilevich

Vadim Trincher, former condo owner on 63rd floor of Trump Tower. Mastermind of Trump Tower gambling ring with Nahmad. 5 years in federal prison and $20 million in asset forfeiture for racketeering.

Jean Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier. Haitian dictator, tied to death and torture of thousands of its citizens. Arrested upon return from exile and charged with embezzlement and human rights abuse.

Owned a condo at Trump Tower valued at $2.5 million.

Felix Sater. Worked in an office out of the 24th floor of Trump Tower and a Trump Org employee. Lead negotiations for Trump Tower Moscow and Trump Soho.

15 months in prison for stabbing a man with a margarita glass. Also convicted in $40 million stock trading scheme.

Michael Cohen. Trump's personal attorney, former Trump Org employee at Trump Tower and resident of Trump World Tower.

Currently in prison for tax evasion, bank fraud, lying to investigators and campaign finance violations tied to illegal hush money payments at direction of Trump

Joseph Weichselbaum. Trump's personal chopper pilot in the 1980s. Upgraded from 32nd floor Trump Tower apartment to adjoining 49th floor condos while he was serving federal sentence for smuggling cocaine out of Colombia via Miami.

The condos were paid for with all cash.

Vyacheslav Ivankov. Top Russian mafia boss and associate of Semion Mogilevich. Hid out in Trump Tower Moscow and was high-roller at Trump Taj Mahal even while subject of a worldwide FBI manhunt. 9-year prison sentence for racketeering. Shot dead in 2009 outside Moscow restaurant.

Correction to this tweet: Ivankov hid out in Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, not Trump Tower Moscow.

Trump Tower Moscow is the unrealized project that Trump pursued with the Russian government during the Trump campaign. Then lied about.

Anatoly Golubchik and Michael Sall. Co-conspirators in the Trincher Trump Tower Gambling Ring. Golubchik was described as an enforcer for the group, collecting debts with threat of violence.

Both Golubchik and Sall forfeited their Trump Tower condos as criminal assets.

Fun Fact re Trump Tower Gambling Ring: They reported to Russian mob boss Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov, also charged with rigging figure-skating at the 2002 Olympics.

Steven Hoffenberg. Leased office space on the 15th floor of Trump Tower mere months after the SEC sued him for operating the largest Ponzi scheme in American history until the Madoff scandal.

Served 16 years of a 20 year sentence for bilking $475 million from investors.

Note on Hoffenberg: he's now in the news as he has alleged that Jeffrey Epstein amassed his own fortune during his role in the Towers Financial scheme.

Also Hoffenberg heads up a Pro-Trump SuperPAC to which he has pledged $50 million.

Ernest Garcia II, billionaire and owner of Drivetime. Huge stakeholder in those hellishly dystopian 'car vending machines' you see advertised. Owns an apartment in Trump Tower.

In 1990 pleaded guilty to a $30 million bank fraud scheme tied to the Keating 5 Savings & Loan scandal

Melvin Cooper. Convicted of helping mastermind a violent loan shark scheme for the Colombo and Gambino crime families in 1985. After getting out of prison he purchased a Trump Tower condo and later bought a second.

Apparently rather disliked by his neighbors.

Here's a fun one concerning Trump, a woman with no income or discernible assets, $6 million worth of Trump Tower Condos, and a big mafia union racketeer.

Sheldon Weinberg. Paid $180,000 a year in rent for his Trump Tower condo at the same time he was pulling in $30,000 a week from Medicare fraud.

Sheldon disappeared in 1989 but was caught after the case was featured on 'Unsolved Mysteries.' Served 16 years.

Jose Maria Marin. Former governor of Sao Paolo and President of the Brazilian Football League. Found guilty of seven counts of money laundering and wire fraud as part of the 2015 FIFA scandal. Currently in prison.

Spent his house arrest pending trial at his condo in Trump Tower.

Chuck Blazer, FIFA executive committee. Pleaded guilty as part of the same scandal. Racketeering, wire fraud, tax evasion, money laundering. Died before sentencing.

Two luxury apartments in Trump Tower. One for himself and one exclusively for his cats.

David Bogatin. One of Trump Tower's earliest tenants, purchased five condos for $6 million in 1984 in a deal that Trump personally closed.

Later extradited from Poland after fleeing indictment in a Russian mob gas smuggling scheme. 7 year prison sentence.

Fun fact about Bogatin: He was also a Red Army vet who reportedly spent some time in North Vietnam advising the locals how to shoot down US planes.

Robert Hopkins. Trump personally appeared at closing on his $1.7 million condo that included $200k in cash that Trump counted himself.

Arrested on murder charges and convicted of running a $500,000 a week numbers racket for the Lucchese crime family.

I could keep this up. I even limited myself to just one of his properties. I haven't touched Epstein treating Mar a Lago as a hunting ground, or R Kelly holding women at Trump Tower in Chicago. Or Ivanka's Baku escapades. Or the 6 other Trump advisors facing federal sentences rn.

Trump himself could well be facing 12 felonies or more the second he leaves office.

Nothing is more 'crime-infested' than Trumpworld. His properties, his charity, his business, his "university", his friends, his campaign, his inauguration, his White House, his family.

He's a criminal, who gets away with it because he's rich and white and extremely racist. And that's all that "crime infested" attack is. Pure racism from a criminal who surrounds himself with thieves and rapists and treacherous charlatans because they're the only people he trusts

I just watched the video at this link that covered the ICE Raids in Mississippi. It is just monstrous. I cannot believe they are getting away with this. These poor families. It is so crazy that they are just abandoning these kids. They go off to their first day of school and come home to find their parents abducted by ICE. We need to abolish ICE. Between the immigration bullshit, white nationalist enabling, and out of control gun violence we need some sort of big resistance event. We can't just sit on our hands waiting for the election. We need to take a page from Puerto Rico and have a national strike.

I'll protest. I don't know what we're waiting for... summer vacations to be over?

And as far as that abominable ICE raid, what's the point of doing raids if the hiring managers aren't prosecuted? It's like arresting the hookers and not the johns.

There is an argument to be made for how much of the bad stuff going on is directly Trump's fault and how much is using him as a shield. I definitely don't think he's planning things. He's too dumb. His chaos instincts are on point though, but that does not indicate planning. Anyway, I thought this image really nailed it, that regardless of how much is deliberate, he's setting it off.

In related unrelated news, I found out yesterday that my sister is dating a Trumpster. He only likes Trump for gun stuff though per my Mom. I get to meet him next week.

Shall I set up a GoFundMe now for a defense lawyer to help me before I beat him senseless (he already is by my reckoning) or later?

Two of my good friends are married to Trumpsters and it absolutely sucks. My best friend's husband is very out and proud about his love for Trump and loves to push anyone and everyone's buttons about it. It really sucks, because I now have to limit my time to seeing them to once or twice a year. It is awful, but I'm not subjecting myself to that bullshit. My other friend's husband doesn't talk politics and to be honest I only found out recently he was a Trump supporter. It saddens me, but he doesn't ever bring up politics, so fine.

    What?

Is this a somehow dumber than usual Trump supporter? Trump would actually probably ban all guns tomorrow by exec order if it wouldn't trigger the 25th amendment. He doesn't give a flying FUCK about gun rights other than pretending to keeps the idiots in line. Pence or Romney or McCain or like any other "normal" republican is further to the right on Trump inside their withered grinch hearts.

I avoid *all* Trump supporters IRL now. And the thing is? I shouldn't know what people believe. Keep your opinions to yourself and off of facebook and just complain on message boards like civilized people. I'm not a fuddy duddy about manners and etiquette, but there is a reason "no politics" is considered one of the main rules of social gatherings.

This is the second Trumpster she's dated. My family lives in Michigan so I get pretty fired up if politics come up. Mom tried to calm me down by telling me he's indicated he "probably won't vote for Trump again." Probably?!

When people care more about guns than human rights violations, and this fictional narrative that Hillary was going to take their guns... I have no room to respect or welcome anyone like that into my life. And if that means cutting people out, guilt by association, so be it. Choices, people. It sucks but we get one life and we have to choose our company wisely. At this point, anyone still supporting trump cannot be considered a safe person to be around.
