    2017 Albums

The announcement of a new Sarah Slean album today made me realize - the year is basically over!

2016 has been pretty incredible in terms of major releases from a lot of big names, and some fantastic debuts.

Which albums are you looking forward to?

    Tori Amos
    Bjork
    Haim
    Sheryl Crow (two albums!)
    Sky Ferreira
    Liz Phair (finally?)
    Sarah Slean
    Nicole Atkins
    Ronika

    ETA:
    Carly Rae Jepsen
    Lana Del Rey
    Christina Aguilera
    Miley Cyrus
    Charli XCX
    Fergie

Indeed, she's been talking about it throughout the year! Someone on PopJustice compiled all the quotes she's given:

Spark notes: It's a lighter album reflecting "utopia" to contrast the darkness of Vulnicura, probably won't have strings, and will incorporate virtual reality in some way.

    Beck
    Sheryl Crow
Kelly Clarkson (A soul album! A have a feeling this might be her best yet)
    Mary J Blige
Ryan Adams (He was supposed to release something this fall, but I imagine it got delayed)

Really hoping for, but we haven't heard anything yet:

    Feist--It's been WAY too long
Robyn--I'd love a proper pop release rather than an EP of super clubby stuff like the last one. I know--get in line, right?
Toulouse--After his beautiful cover of "I Will Follow You," I'd be curious to hear a full album
Janelle Monae--It feels like she's due for another full-length, yes? And with a promising movie career, she's kind of on fire right now.
    Neko Case
    Dixie Chicks

And I always welcome something new from old favorites. I'd love a new Madonna or Sufjan Stevens album, but they just put out records I loved in 2015, so I could wait another year.

Ahhh, forgot we're due for a Beck album with (maybe?) some of the songs he's released so far.

Totally with you RE: Kelly Clarkson! She doesn't get enough credit for her truly incredible voice, but this could be the album that does it.

I'm curious how the 2016 election will influence some of the albums we're getting. Many of the names mentioned already - Tori, Sheryl, Janelle, Neko, many more - they've released political work in the past and were very vocal about the election. I wonder how many protest albums/songs we'll get as a result?

Looking forward to new ones from Aldous Harding, Jesca Hoop and All Them Witches. All confirmed!

All Them Witches - "Bruce Lee" [Official Video]

    And Ana Silvera, hopefully!
Maybe for once, someone will call me "Sir" without adding, "You're making a scene."

Also just read the news that Ed Kowalczyk has rejoined Live. I don't hate a couple of their later albums as much as some people, and his solo albums were godawful, so I'm hoping they put out something decent together. Secret Samadhi and The Distance To Here were played to death in my discman.
