I guess the thing that pops out most to me is the "altered state" thing she goes into during interviews (televised only?!). Her eyes drift off, her speech really slows and its like she isn't even there.

So, I guess that core meaning is still invoked for me whenever someone defines themselves a 'composer', inviting unnecessary comparisons. Then again, what is 'the tradition of Western classical music' in 2017? The times they are a-changing... but not quite for me yet.

The first thing that comes to my mind is the thing she does where she'll switch microphones while holding a note
"i think lady gaga is immensely entertaining"

Straddling the piano bench, but I suppose that's kind of a given.

Holding the microphone between her two fingers.

Staring off into space with "locked" eyes during certain parts of certain songs while performing.

    Her little two-hand wave.

    I do love her.
    Yes yes yesssss.

Oh I love the mic thing.

I adore her confidence and how natural it is for her to be on stage. Ive never known anyone like it. Amazing.

I'm guilty of adopting the "Tori wave" :P I do it all the time
I'm glad you're on my side, still.

    LOVE this thread!! LOL

So, Torisms I noticed through the years:

    - This "Jack I'm flying" pose

    - Banging the piano lid

    - Separating two consonants from each other: "fuh-lying, cuh-ry, guh-lass, etc"

    - Adding random ee's and oo's vocalization to almost every song, live. Just think Icicle '01, the beginning of Cloud on my tongue, Merman, Blood Roses '99, Crucify '02, Pretty good year up until 2007, Mountain/star whisperer, and so on, the list is endless

    - Leather leggings tucked over her shoes
"If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I'm neurotic as hell. I'll be flying back and forth between one mutually exclusive thing and another for the rest of my days."

Doing the hammer motion against the front side of the Bosendorfer during "Sugar."

Chewing gum, and keeping it in her mouth during performance.

    Drinking her honey/lemon/tea.

    Always using lip gloss.

Her obsession with shoes and wine.

    Her metaphors during interviews.

Going back a little bit to the previous page where P J Harvey is mentioned- in her 2011 iTunes sessions interview she said she "thought of herself more of a songwriter than a musician". And apparently again in 2016 for Spin magazine: "I still see myself as a songwriter, really".
