Has Native Invader invaded your top 5?

To my amazement and delight, it has mine. Don't know if it will stay like this, but these are my current top 5 Tori songs. PGY dethroned after two decades!

    1. Reindeer King
    2. Pretty Good Year
    3. iieee
    4. Caught a Lite Sneeze
    5. Virginia

Reindeer King snuck into my Top 10 (which is really a Top 7 tie followed by 3 more).

    1. Iieee
    2. Horses
    3. CALS
    4. Pretty Good Year
    5. A Sorta Fairytale
    6. Spark
    7. Butterfly
    8. Cooling
    9. Siren
    10. Reindeer King

I actually can't remember exactly what it displaced - Precious Things maybe? Either that or Tombigbee.

I don't have a standard top ten set of favorite songs. But I wouldn't say that Reindeer King, Up the Creek, or Climb has invaded my top ten all item favorite Tori Amos songs.

I added the release dates for the songs and I'm all over the place.

    Doughnut Song - 1996
    Climb - 2017
    Yes, Anastasia - 1994
    Sugar - 1992
    Pancake - 2002

Yes, doughnuts, sugar, and pancakes. :P

Climb has punched me right in the heart and gut. I've skipped it many times because I don't want to feel the sadness. But I've also put in on repeat dozens of times when I want to feel that connection despite the tears. iTunes tells me I've listened to it 183 times so far.

    Professional Widow
    Blood Roses
    Precious Things
    Spark
    Caught A Lite Sneeze.

Nope, not for songs. But as far as albums go, yes.

I don't know yet, it's too soon but anyway I've never been able to establish a stable top 5, it's too labile for me and there're too many songs. I will try with top 10 (no particular order) in which I might fit one NI masterpiece.

    Butterfly
    Riot Poof
    Pancake
    Sweet Sangria
    Raspberry Swirl
    Motormaids
    Space Dog
    Tear in Your Hand
    Siren
    Wildwood

If any song will do it, it'll be Bats, Wildwood, or Climb

Top 5, probably not, but I wouldn't be shocked if Wildwood and Reindeer King cracked top 20.

I've done a nerdy update of my itunes megalist of all official releases - albeit top 5 remaining firmly unchanged:
    1 Horses
    2 Honey
    3 Sugar
    4 Space Dog
    5 A Case of You

Here's where they sit for me amongst the 321 tracks. After 2 weeks, I guess I'm concluding it mostly isn't grabbing me:
45 Reindeer King - is brilliant, better than the best on Geraldines even

168 Climb - might climb, but it reminds me of Trouble's Lament too much. Saint Veronica is grating a little
174 Bats - also might climb, there's definitely something interesting there, although the echoing backing vocal bugs me a bit. I do like the "keep breathing" part
177 Wings - I know it's wrong, but I have actually found myself returning to this one!
187 Russia - like others I wish the voices featured throughout a la NtRB. It's not amazing, but pretty enough
199 Bang - I have this feeling that in a month or two this will be Code Red No. 2, not in a (is there a?) good way
202 Breakaway - this reminds me of The Light Princess, which I like... it's just not massively memorable
207 Upside Down 2 - I wish she'd called this something else, and the upside down smile is cheesey, but hey ho
208 Mary's Eyes - I don't like the backing vocal, although I really want to like this one, I don't... yet
214 Chocolate Song - I'd like it more if it lost the repeated "satiny luscious chocolate"
226 Wildwood - "wildwood... poppies/touch me" REALLY REALLY annoys me
238 Up the Creek - sorry, not a fan of the "if the Militia of the Mind / arm against the climate blind" line
265 Broken Arrow - the porn guitar makes me hit skip, the song could have been good - it reminds me of Morcheeba
281 Benjamin - I didn't realise the lyric was "science whiz" until just now (oh dear!) I seem to think Harps of Gold is better?!
284 Cloud Riders - for what it's worth, it is coming in higher than Big Wheel, Silent Night with You and Sleeps with Butterflies!

Having said that, nothing is as bad as the worst parts of the last 6 records, so I'd agree it is definitely her best since Scarlet and I'm looking forward to the Royal Albert Hall gig.

A Case of You isn't even an original Tori Amos song. How could you?!

Do It Again, Famous Blue Raincoat and New Age have all been in my Top 40 at various points

I just got the Cornflake Girl CD with Case Of You the other day (after having the songs digitally for years) and . I love all 3 covers on that one. (And the cover is my favorite Tori pic ever, e.g. the one in my avatar).

Tori's cover of A Case of You is stunningly gorgeous.

I love Tori's even more than the original! And I've been obsessed with Joni this past year. For me even though it's a cover it's got all I fell for - her breathing, the emotion that the space creates, and that piano. And then right at the end the high "of you darling... and still be on my feet" still gets me 23 years later.

Oh and New Age is top 10 too - she owns covers like noone else.
