COVID-19 also took out Terence MacNally, a giant of both LGBT and mainstream American theater. He was 81. A friend commented that he made it through the HIV era, only to be felled by a different fucking virus.

Boris has it. Is he going to be a shining beacon of modeling good behaviour, the UR of "keep calm and carry on from 2 metres"? Or is he going to be a preview of what Trump will be like when he gets it?

When we 50 states have to fight amongst ourselves for federal scraps THAT WE PAY FOR (ESPECIALLY THE BLUE STATES), who's gonna win?

The thread is even better than the donation. They call out the NHS' lack of preparation and puts the blame where it belongs: budget cuts. The responses are often predictably stupid, but the thread itself is great.

And once again, the sex industry is better than government. Here AND in England.

I foresee people just indiscriminately killing bats now. Doesn’t matter if they’re in China or not. People be stupid.

Here's an article I liked, from Jack Holmes at Esquire. It's a summation of the whole thing of Trump saying states are responsible. Here's a choice paragraph.

This might sound like some boilerplate Republican bullshit about leaving it to the states, but it is not. It's more like if FDR said Pearl Harbor was Hawaii's problem. We are at war, the president says constantly, against a silent enemy, but apparently he is not the commander-in-chief, at least if it means he is responsible for whether we win or lose. He would like to be on television talking about the war, and if it goes well he will claim credit. But if it goes south, it's Jay Inslee's fault.
    And he ends thusly:

Everything is filtered through how it affects him personally, and what people are saying about him, and whether they are being very nasty and unfair to him. Always remember that it's your God-given right as an American to tell the president to shut the fuck up and get the ventilators.

I needed that. I realized I wasn't really laughing much. I had a pretty funny roast battle with my kid over some hipster idiot the other day, but other than that I can't remember when I really laughed lately. Just a few memes once in a while. I don't think I'm depressed, but I think my anxiety and anger just rule all. And if I can still laugh but haven't, maybe I just haven't seen anything funny because everyone else is stressed out.

I'm not overly affected by seasonal allergies, but some years I do have a reaction. Plus I've had a cold that just lingers for like 6 weeks now. I think it's gone and it pops back up, but less and less. No fevers, no chills, no breathing problems. So I'm coughing a lot for me and my head hurts often and I cannot relax about it. I know it's not IT (knock wood) but it makes every sniffle so much worse. And now we're heading into full spring and it's only going to be worse.

I also am having allergies. My main worry about them is that I'll scare others with snot and coughing. As for me, I feel like my fun with MRSA in the late 00s has made me more able to realize when things are really going south. But I'm gonna watch out for other shit like losing taste and smell.

I don't have the equipment to make and donate masks, but I do have enough to scrounge up a couple. Before I go into a google rabbit hole, potentially reading misinformation, old information, etc., does anyone have good info on masks? A good twitter thread, a good article, a good segment on a news show? Should I make one for my own personal use, is what I'm looking for and if I did, when should I be using it? That kind of thing. I mean, I can look on my own but I know some of you are much more knowledgeable about med stuff than me and could steer me in the right direction.

It sounds like masks are not a bad idea in theory and it was told to us at the beginning we didn't need them to keep people from hording them and that was really fucking dumb because we could have made our own and maybe slowed transmission even more. Even just 10%, 5% is a huge number in NYC.
