(Although I'll only go to Venice in the winter months. In summer it smells like poop.)

This is the uniform, right? A boatneck isn't exactly flattering to my boobs, but I can manage a nice stripey vest:

WAIT! What about Colorado? Or NY or FL.

I understand. Italy is far away, but not un-(f)-doable.

A couple of notes on my first travel to Europe, more specifically, London and Paris. We added Giverny and Versailles at the last moment. Just to make things more hectic.

Did I mention that Paris was really hot? I'll check my previous posts. (shuffles papers)

I made it back! After we lost just about everything, and got most of it back. Public transport is great, but there is a certain organizational usefullness to traveling by Your Car-, that's where you put everything. The worst: well wait there are several contenders. The One I Felt Stupidest About:

I LEFT MY HOUSE AND CAR KEYS IN THE RENTED LONDON FLAT. AND THEN WENT TO PARIS.

I didn't realize anything was wrong until I was in line to catch the Eurostar to Paris, that's when I remembered there were no keys in my pocket. Because, that's just what I do.

So to back up a bit, after setting out, traveling out from home for about 20+ hours, and arriving at our flat in London, I decided I should find a place, a drawer, where I would keep all the things I didn't need while in London. I dropped my keys there, and then, since I didn't need them I just forgot all about them.

And then a whole bunch of stuff happened that I'll tell you about when I see you, it was a melange. But I did get my keys back.

So, in a nutshell, just imagine important papers lost and/or found!, weird and/or great foods, impossible street maps, high, humid temps, lousy bus tours, where are we?, long lines but beautiful country and you know there were very few no maybe only one slighty rough spot already forgiven..., where the people were without exception, nicer than I expected. More respectful and kind.

Make no mistake, I would do it differently next time. But the responsibility is all mine.

I have a suggestion for next time, Dale: Try to have fun no matter what happens! Every time you take a trip, you have to expect a few things to go wrong. Judging from the photos I saw on FB, you had some wonderful experiences. Concentrate on those and stop second-guessing yourself!

It sounds like a successful trip all told, Dale. What dates were you in Paris for? We had an unbelievable heatwave here in London last week and I wonder if that's the same heatwave that hit Paris. I did nothing but lie on my bed with all the windows open for three days straight.

Everyone leaves things behind from time to time; passports, keys, children. It's just a part of being in a strange place and being addled by the new surroundings.

    hahahah!

I'm not an unforumz darling or anything, but I wouldn't turn up my nose at a big reunion/convention some place.

Well you're right. It was a wonderful trip, I'm just kind of astonished, and amused, at the number of things that could go wrong. I mean, we didn't get sick, or wreck the car, but just about everything else almost, came undone at one time or another. So we did have a great time and it was a great experience, and, I'm confident that I would do it better next time. And here are a couple of the many pictures I took. Monet's water garden and glaciers in Greenland.

We were in Paris from June 17th to June 25th. I think the hottest two days were the 21st and 22nd. Thank the heat for making me want to try something really cold, and I just discovered that yes, I can buy Aperol here!

Addled we were. I just talked with my companion, who is an experienced traveler, and she said yes, it was amazing how many things went awry, and yet, yes we did have a wonderful time. I guess I forgot to mention that.

Yeah that was precisely in the end of the heatwave. Here down south in France it was 37-40 celcius. 0_o.
